What is The Green Militia
The Green Militia, is an eco-club based in Banaras Hindu University’s (BHU) South Campus popularly known as Rajiv Gandhi South campus (RGSC) located at Barkachha, Mirzapur distt. of Uttar Pradesh.
A community founded by students of RGSC, Mirzapur green militia is first of its kind. It has received an overwhelming response since its first public announcement in November, 2009. From its 15 founding members Green Militia rose to whopping 95 members in April, 2010. The primary motive of green militia is to provide a common platform for all students, faculty members and staff of RGSC to channelize their knowledge and creativity for the cause of environment through innovation and idea generation. This ranges from organizing awareness campaigns, seminars, researchs, movie screenings to community partnership programs with collaboration of local, national and international organizations and the media. The green militia is a suitable platform where each and every member would get an exposure to real environmental challenges.
After becoming member you would be assigned small works under its working groups/committees which you can do in your free time. You can also take up any project individually or in a group. Being a member of green militia you will get full support from all other members. Green militia is backed by reputed organizations. Earth Matters Foundation awarded three of its member with exclusive Earth Matters T-shirts for their contribution to make RGSC plastic free campus.
The major objective of The Green Militia is to create mass awareness and sensitizing people about the need to conserve environment. TGM having members from different discipline would be expected to find new and innovative ways for the same. Here are some feedbacks we received from teaching staff of R.G.S.C.
